Despite being named to South Africa’s preliminary 50-man squad, Burnley manager Sean Dyche was categorical last week that the 23-year-old would not be joining his national team.
Foster was a surprising inclusion on Burnley’s bench for the game against Everton two days later, where he came off the bench to make his first appearance in ten weeks.
The club announced at the beginning of November that Foster would be taking an indefinite hiatus from football to undergo specialist treatment for his mental health.
However, doctors agreed that it was critical to maintain Foster in his natural surroundings and that his return to his teammates would be beneficial.
Physically, Kompany believed Foster could only play 45-60 minutes and that he will need to improve his fitness in the coming weeks.
Despite the striker’s return to play, Burnley manager Sean Dyche has stated that he will not be ready for the Ivory Coast tournament in January.
“It’s not even my decision; it’s not in my hands.” He simply cannot. “It’s the medical advice we’re getting right now,” he explained.
“Of course, the conflict is that he adores playing for his country.” Even from my perspective, the AFCON is a significant prize and a significant competition. It’s crucial for me to support the tournament as an African coach, but it’s not up to me. I simply relay.
“We’ve done everything for the human being to this point, there’s no reason to change all of a sudden now.”
