Newcastle now tipped to complete shock January deal for 24-goal forward

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a move to sign LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David.

According to journalist Marco Conterio, Newcastle United have entered the bidding for the Canadian forward.

Eddie Howe will be anxious for reinforcements in January due to Newcastle’s continuous injury crisis.

During the early parts of the season, the Magpies have already lost a number of crucial players.

Newcastle are largely likely to sign a new midfielder following the suspension of Sandro Tonali. However, it appears that they are also interested in signing gifted forward Jonathan David.

Last season, the Lille forward scored 24 goals in Ligue 1 and drew interest from Tottenham over the summer.

And, according to Conterio, Newcastle have entered the race for the Canadian international.

Newcastle enter race to sign David

Conterio took to X on Tuesday evening and said that Newcastle would enter the race for David.

According to the journalist, the Magpies have already tested the waters about a possible move for the 23-year-old.

David hasn’t been as productive this season, but he has nine goal assists in 22 games.

The forward possesses excellent qualities and has been praised for his pace and direct approach.

Indeed, SpeedsDB lists him as being faster than Manchester City star Phil Foden.

City’s winger has a top speed of 32.40 km/h, while David has a top speed of 32.6 km/h.

Of course, Newcastle already possesses a quick forward in Alexander Isak, who has thrived since moving to St James’ Park last summer.

However, David would offer Howe with another quality and adaptable option up front. The £50 million man has also demonstrated his ability to play out wide or in an attacking midfield role.

However, it would be surprising if Newcastle prioritized the acquisition of a new forward next month. The Magpies are desperate for midfield reinforcements, and this will most likely be at the top of their priority list in January.
