Newcastle will now sign £50m-rated star with Kieran Trippier’s approval

Despite Fabrizio Romano’s earlier article, Newcastle United are back in the race for England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a transfer insider, Kalvin Phillips is the subject of a loan-to-buy deal from Juventus, and the Italian giants are leading the way for his signature.

However, according to TeamTalk, Newcastle are still in the driving seat after Juventus were priced out of the deal.

Manchester City want £50million for Phillips

Manchester City recently stated that they would like £50 million for Phillips, who they paid roughly £45 million for when they signed him from Leeds United. Given that Phillips has made only a few appearances for City in that period, the fact that they seek to benefit from his transfer is absurd.
According to TeamTalk, Phillips’ priority would be to stay in the Premier League rather than go to Europe, which would be good news for Newcastle.

Given that Newcastle are currently negotiating with the devil that is FFP, any deal for Phillips in January will almost certainly be a loan with an option/obligation to buy, but the club would have more confidence in being able to stump up the cash than Juventus did.

Eddie Howe can get the best out of Phillips

We absolutely need a guy like Phillips, someone who can bridge the gap between defense and midfield, and we’ve seen that Kalvin Phillips is a terrific player; he simply didn’t fit the way Pep Guardiola plays, which raises the question ‘why purchase him?’ but that’s history now.

We’d have a great player on our hands if we could get Phillips back to his peak, which Eddie Howe’s track record implies we can. Our very own Kieran Trippier, who has played with Kalvin Phillips for England, termed the former Leeds United man ‘phenomenal’ not long ago.

He needs to catch up after languishing on the Manchester City bench, but Gareth Southgate continues picking him for England, so he must be doing something right. Wait. Wait a minute, that implies Southgate is capable. That’s not true.
