Miami Heat champion signs with another team

Dexter Pittman, a former Miami Heat center, has found a new home. According to HoopsHype, Pittman, who won a championship with the Heat in 2012, has signed with Mexican team Halcones de Xalapa for the 2023-24 season.

Pittman was drafted by the Miami Heat in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft after playing collegiate basketball at the University of Texas. He stayed with Miami through the 2012-13 season, and he was a member of the 2011-12 club that defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals in five games to win the league title.

Pittman has previously played for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Atlanta Hawks in addition to the Heat. He last appeared in an NBA game with Atlanta in 2014. He’s still playing professionally after nearly a decade.
Meanwhile, the Heat are attempting to replicate their 2011-12 season success. Miami sits fifth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 15-11 record over two months into the current season. Given the plethora of injuries they’ve had to deal with, the Heat have had a rather impressive start to the season.

Tyler Herro has only played in eight games for the Heat this season due to an ankle ailment, while other key contributors such as Bam Adebayo have also been out. Because of the absences, the Heat have struggled to develop rhythm and consistency, but they still have a winning record and are in the heart of the East playoff picture.

Moving forward, the Heat must hope that they can overcome their injury problems and get its players back on the court to establish some consistency. On Sunday, they received some encouraging news in this regard.

Miami has six games left until the year turns from 2023 to 2024. These games will be against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Utah Jazz, among others.
It won’t be an easy stretch of games, but the Heat will want to finish the year on a high note by stringing together some victories to carry into 2024.
