Eagles star undergoes surgery and will miss some time out

Eagles cornerback Darius Slay will miss some time after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery this week

Darius Slay, the Eagles’ top cornerback, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week and will be out for some time, according to head coach Nick Sirianni on Saturday morning.

The Eagles do not intend to place Slay on Injured Reserve, implying that he will return within the next four games. But Slay will be out for a while, beginning with Monday’s game at Seattle.

How long do the Eagles anticipate Slay being out?

“We’ll see,” Sirianni responded.

Slay, 32, has been battling with a knee issue for quite some time. He missed the first two days of practice last week, but returned on Friday and was able to play against the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday night. The expectation is that by having surgery this week, Slay will be able to play in the playoffs for the Eagles.

Darius Slay receives some Giants-sized karma with Eagles fate, or not

Despite the fact that Slay will turn 33 on January 1, he has played at a high level this season and has definitely been the Eagles’ top cornerback. Slay has two interceptions and 14 pass breakups in 12 games this season. He’s limited opposition quarterbacks to an 80.2 passer rating and 7.0 yards per attempt.

Sirianni stated that he was aware of Slay’s operation and status early enough in the week to plan for his absence from this game.

Kelee Ringo, Josh Jobe, and Eli Ricks are potential replacements for Slay. Ringo appeared to be ahead of Jobe on the depth chart at outside cornerback after playing 22 defensive snaps last week.

Ringo, a fourth-round choice out of Georgia, has spent most of the season on the bench defensively but has played an important role on special teams. Ringo’s progress in practice has impressed the Eagles behind the scenes.

It’s been a difficult week without Slay. The Seahawks have lost four straight games but have a formidable receiving corps that includes D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and youngster Jaxson Smith-Njigba.
