Gerry Cardinale could take major decision on Pioli’s Milan future if he fails to do two things

AC Milan’s elimination from the Champions League in the group stage will not sit well with the club’s management, and Stefano Pioli will now have to battle for his job.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) published an article this morning about Milan, specifically Pioli’s future. They claim that despite having ‘one foot out of Milanello’ after being ousted in the Champions League,’ he may still save his position.

If the Rossoneri embark on a tremendous run in the Europa League and finish among the top four in the league again, Gerry Cardinale may be convinced to keep him beyond the conclusion of the season.

The major goal is to regain league consistency while waiting for European action to return in mid-February. The season’s trend, according to the article, is still severely negative for Pioli.

Pioli: "This is the best possible formation. We worked a lot last week"

After only 15 league games, Milan is nine points behind leaders Inter but still has a four-point lead over fourth, despite missing out on the Champions League round of 16.

Not an ideal situation for Cardinale, who chose Pioli to lead the team after the dismissals of Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini. Pioli must recover the owners’ trust and, with it, the opportunity to continue his tale with Milan.
