Even Newcastle United fans, according to Rio Ferdinand, were taken aback by Joelinton’s goal against AC Milan tonight.
The 27-year-old midfielder was the hero of the show for the Toon, as his spectacular volley gave Newcastle the lead against the Italian giants at St. James Park.
And, during TNT Sports’ coverage of the UEFA Champions League match, Ferdinand stated that Newcastle fans in the stadium were astounded by Joelinton’s goal.
Iit was one of the finest strikes the South American superstar has hit in his entire career, and Newcastle fans were seemingly taken aback by the move, even with the Champions League dream coming to an end tonight.
Ferdinand said: “I think his actual first touch is almost like a bad one and then it just sits up, that’s how he’s able to hit it on the volley, that’s how he’s able to generate that power.
“It’s a fantastic strike. I think a lot of people were surprised, even in the stadium, because he’s not really known to score many goals.”
Joelinton might not score a better goal for Newcastle United
Joelinton’s Newcastle career has been nothing short of amazing, with the former attacker thrown off as a washout before becoming one of Eddie Howe’s most crucial players in a completely different position.
Goals were always Joelinton’s forte, but with his new job, such pleasures are now rare for the former TSG Hoffenheim forward.
Even Joelinton will acknowledge that he may not score a greater goal for Newcastle than he did against Milan tonight.
Although the Magpies failed to qualify from the Group of Death, Joelinton will remember his goal tonight for a long time.
