Newcastle player is now ‘furious’, Barcelona are ready to sell Lewandowski to sign him

On Wednesday night, Newcastle United suffered a severe setback.

AC Milan’s comeback triumph not only eliminated them from the Champions League, but it also effectively terminated Newcastle’s European campaign.

While Eddie Howe’s team has performed admirably in Europe this season, they are without any post-Christmas European participation.

Though the difficulty of their group and an injury problem may provide mitigating circumstances, finishing bottom of the table after thumping Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park is hugely disheartening.

Naturally, reports are now circulating that important players are dissatisfied with the situation.

Bruno Guimaraes to Barcelona: Newcastle transfer latest

According to Football Transfers, Bruno Guimaraes is “furious” about his team’s early departure from Europe.

They suggest that the Brazilian, who only signed a new contract with the club in October, could be open to offers if Newcastle do not regain their place in Europe’s elite tournament, given his desire to play at that level.

Barcelona, who were linked with the midfielder earlier this summer, are thought to be ready to pounce if he starts looking elsewhere. Indeed, they might sell Robert Lewandowski to obtain finances to sign Guimaraes.

The Saudi Pro League is interested in the striker and could force him out in order to pay the rumored £100 million release clause in Guimaraes’ contract.

For his part, the Brazil international is thought to be excited about the prospect of playing for the Catalan giants.

Bruno Guimaraes: Newcastle transfer will surely happen

It’s impossible to picture Guimaraes taking Newcastle’s departure personally now. After all, he has repeatedly stated how much he enjoys playing for the club.

Still, expecting him to stay if the club does not return to that level may be overly optimistic.

With a release clause in his contract, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone used it. If Newcastle cannot meet his demands, a move could be appealing.

That is not a reflection on Guimaraes’ opinion of Newcastle, but players leave teams where they are idolized all the time. Unfortunately, it is unavoidable at the top level of football.
