Allan Saint-Maximin watched on from Saudi Arabia as Newcastle United exited the Champions League.
Allan Saint-Maximin sat at home watching Newcastle United lose 2-1 to AC Milan in the Champions League group stage at St James’ Park.
Saint-Maximin, who played 124 times for The Magpies before joining Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli in the summer, documented his attendance at the game on Instagram. Before the match at St James’ Park, the 26-year-old shared a photo of his television with the caption: “It’s time.”
The winger then shared a video of himself celebrating Joelinton’s goal, which gave Newcastle a 1-0 lead in the first half. The goal would have been enough for Newcastle to advance to the last-16 of the Champions League, but Milan turned things around in the second half.
AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic equalized just before the hour mark, and as Newcastle pushed for a victory, the visitors caught them off guard on the counter, with Samuel Chukwueze making it 2-1. United had gone from second in the group and through to the knockout phase to fourth and out of Europe in the space of 25 second-half minutes.
After the match, Saint-Maximin summed his feelings up by posting a black screen with the caption: “No words.”
As a result, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the competition’s last-16 round, while AC Milan secured a place in the Europa League. Despite growing raised in Paris, Saint-Maximin declared his allegiance to Newcastle.
