Alan Shearer believes Newcastle United will “bounce back” from two losses last week, saying he is “more than confident” we will beat AC Milan.
Our former number nine also feels Borussia Dortmund will “do a job” on PSG in tonight’s other Group F match, according to the Rest is Football podcast. If the Ligue 1 side fails to win in Germany, we will finish second in the group and go to the knockout stages with a win over Milan.
Shearer believes we are “totally different” at home and believes the return of Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson will help us, with the crowd also playing an important role in what he expects to be a “electric” atmosphere under the lights.
Here’s what he’s had to say ahead of the 8pm kick-off at St James’ Park:
“It’s a huge, huge game. It’s totally different when you’re at home – you’ve got the backing of the crowd and they’ve got two players back in Longstaff and Wilson, who came on for the last 25 minutes (as Spurs) and looked decent, so I imagine they’ll be involved.
“Milan have got a few injuries as well, so I’m more than confident that Newcastle will bounce back (with a win) tonight. The atmosphere will be electric again.
“Of course it’s not in their hands – even if they win it might not be enough – but the likelihood is that Dortmund do a job on PSG, because I’m not sure they are a great team.”
Let’s hope he’s right!
