Daniel Farke has confirmed that Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram will miss Leeds United’s away game against Sunderland on Tuesday, with Byram anticipated to remain out until the new year.
Byram and Shackleton both played in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Blackburn. Byram started the game at left-back but was forced to leave after 70 minutes due to a hamstring injury. Djed Spence took his place.
Shackleton was an unused substitute on Saturday, but Farke claims both players will now be absent at Sunderland, who are still without a manager after Tony Mowbray was fired. Shackleton is suffering from a gluteal ailment.
Farke confirmed the news while hoping that Patrick Bamford will be able to return to the squad for the game after missing Blackburn with flu. He spoke via the Leeds YouTube channel today.
“I can confirm that Sam Byram is definitely out, hamstring strain. He will be out for about three weeks. Realistically, we expect him to be back in the new year. Shackleton has a glute injury, he is not available.
“He trained yesterday but he felt it after training. Patrick Bamford has not trained but we have a session this afternoon and hopefully he can come through. We have to wait,” Farke told his press conference.
Sam Byram and Jamie Shackleton will miss Sunderland clash
Even though Mowbray has been fired, Leeds will face a Sunderland side that defeated West Brom on Saturday. We face two ex-Leeds United players. Jack Clarke and Niall Huggins.
A tough game that would be a huge win if we could come away with three points, especially with Byram out with a hamstring injury. It will be interesting to watch who replaces Byram.
