‘Without a doubt’…Eddie Howe thinks Newcastle star can replace Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United do not now have somebody who can perform what Bruno Guimaraes does.

The 26-year-old is one-of-a-kind, which is why he is so crucial to Eddie Howe. That has been demonstrated in recent weeks, with Bruno performing at an incredibly high level against elite opposition.

He was crucial in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Manchester United, winning the battle of the Brunos in the middle of the pitch with to his tactical knowledge and tireless pushing.

Newcastle are a completely different team without Bruno. Not only is he a fantastic player, but he also plays at a position where other players struggle. He plays as the’six,’ sitting in the middle of the midfield three and directing play.

The team tried unsuccessfully to find someone else to play in that position, allowing Bruno to move further up the pitch.

However, Eddie Howe feels they have someone in their ranks who can play in that position in the coming years.

Eddie Howe thinks Lewis Miley can play as a ‘six’ in the future

Howe speaks to the media before of Newcastle’s trip to Everton. He was asked to comment on Lewis Miley’s best position following a stellar run in the Toon starting lineup.

“I’d say at the moment he’s probably better higher up the pitch where he’s able to run and play with a bit more freedom,” he added.
“However, the’six’ is a very tactical position.” Without a doubt, I believe he can be a’six’ for us in the future. That, I believe, need more development.”

Teenager could save Newcastle a lot of money in the coming years

The fact that Howe believes Lewis Miley has the potential to become a ‘number six’ speaks something about his abilities. We’ve seen Sean Longstaff and Joelinton play there, and both have struggled with the position’s responsibilities.

But Howe is certain that Miley can make the shift as he continues his football growth.

If that happens, Newcastle might save a fortune in the transfer market, which is precisely what Dan Ashworth wants. He prefers that the club develop and nurture its own talent rather than spending money on ready-made stars.

Miley will continue to play in a more advanced capacity for the time being. The 17-year-old seemed at ease there, impressing against Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Howe believes that with time, he will be able to play a more disciplined role in midfield.
