Next Sunderland manager: The latest reports and gossip as Sunderland search for Tony Mowbray’s successor.

According to reports from abroad, Swedish manager Kim Hellberg is in the running to become Sunderland’s next manager.

Hellberg, 35, has been the manager of Allsvenskan side IFK Varnamo since the beginning of 2022, leading them to a fifth-place finish this season, although his contract is set to expire.

According to the Swedish tabloid Sportbladet, Hellberg ‘is on Sunderland’s list of possible coaches’ and will meet with the club on Thursday to discuss the vacant position. According to the article, Hellberg was also considered for the empty position at Hammarby IF following Marti Cifuentes’ transfer to QPR before the Sunderland position became available.

Nice assistant Julien Sable is still the bookmakers’ favorite to succeed Tony Mowbray at the Stadium of Light, although Hellberg’s odds have fallen in light of recent rumors.

An interim coaching team, led by Mike Dodds, is set to take charge of Saturday’s home match against West Brom, as things stand. Sunderland will then host Leeds three days later on Tuesday, December 12.
