Newcastle United star issues three-word injury update as third Newcastle surgery blow confirmed

Newcastle United injuries: There is mixed news on the injury front heading into the festive season.

Newcastle United will be without Nick Pope until at least the end of the season, but Sven Botman is close to returning.

Pope suffered a shoulder dislocation in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Manchester United at St James’ Park. According to Sky Sports, a decision has been taken for the goalie to have surgery, with no clear timetable for his return.

The normal recuperation time for such surgery is roughly four months, but considering Pope’s function as goalie and his shoulder’s more rigorous use, it is likely to be longer. In Pope’s absence, Martin Dubravka is expected to fill in.

 

 

Since the start of the season, two Newcastle players have had surgery. Jacob Murphy underwent surgery for a dislocated shoulder, while Matt Targett underwent hamstring surgery.

Sven Botman, another Newcastle player, provided a positive injury report on his knee problem. The 23-year-old has been sidelined since September and has been contemplating surgery.

Botman, however, took to Instagram after returning to light training to post a snapshot of himself enjoying his first goal for Newcastle at Sheffield United in what remains his most recent outing for the club. The Dutch defender captioned the photo: “Last few steps.”

In Botman’s absence, Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has performed admirably. In addition to Botman, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock are nearing returns from ankle and Achilles ailments, respectively.
