European giants now tipped to complete ‘ambitious’ move for €100-rated Milan star

If Chelsea decides to pursue AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, they may face competition from Bayern Munich.

Mike Maignan is being linked with a move to Chelsea.

According to Calciomercato, Bayern Munich have put the 28-year-old at the top of their list for the summer transfer window in 2024.

The Italian newspaper also claims that Chelsea is interested in Maignan and that he may cost €100 million (£85.6 million).

The Blues bought Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion in the previous transfer window, but ties to new goalkeepers hint that the 26-year-old may not be fully convinced. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsdale has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Who is Mike Maignan more likely to join, Bayern Munich or Chelsea?

Bayern would have to be considered favorites here. They might make a strong effort for Maignan next summer, but Chelsea’s interest could wane if Sanchez performs well in the second half of the season.

Manuel Neuer is 37 years old, therefore it would not be surprising to see Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel bring in a long-term replacement shortly. Maignan is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, thus he is a clear choice for whom the Bundesliga champions may go all out.

In the 2021/22 season, the Frenchman preserved the most clean sheets in Serie A, assisting Milan to victory.

Maignan will also be able to continue playing in the Champions League at Bayern. Chelsea cannot guarantee the former Lille player participation in Europe’s elite league.

Never say never with the Blues, but if they are serious about acquiring a new goaltender, Ramsdale appears to be a more reachable target.

There do not appear to be any European powerhouses interested in him, and he is set to become available after losing his job at Arsenal to David Raya.
