According to a rumor this morning, AC Milan wants to renew Mike Maignan’s contract, and the player wants to stay, but it will not be an easy discussion.
According to today’s issue of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Maignan is one of the undisputed leaders of this Milan team, and his contract renewal is one of the management’s current goals.
The Frenchman’s current contract expires in 2026, and he makes €2.8 million each year. Talks with his agents have already begun, and they start from a good place, with Maignan wanting to stay at the club and in the city where he is extremely pleased.
However, this alone will not suffice to achieve an agreement because there is the economic component to consider, including the former Lille player’s well-deserved wage boost.
The first request was €8 million net per year, far over the ownership’s cap, but Milan does not want to lose Maignan and will thus continue negotiations with his entourage in the aim of reaching an agreement soon.
If they run into problems, there are plenty of top European clubs watching and waiting to pounce, including Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League and, above all, Bayern Munich.
