Alan Shearer wowed by Newcastle signing and Gary Lineker gives seal of approval

Tino Livramento has received praise from Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker following another outstanding performance from the full-back.

Following excellent performances against Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG, the former Southampton star was outstanding in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Manchester United.

Shearer confesses that while enjoying him at St Mary’s, he “didn’t realise how good a player he was” until he saw him in a Newcastle shirt, complimenting his “huge potential” and miraculous recovery from a catastrophic knee injury.

Lineker, like Shearer, has asked Gareth Southgate to “call him,” saying that his pace, power, “great engine,” and ability to play down both flanks could be a major addition to England; especially when he’s also eligible to represent Scotland and Portugal.

Tino Livramento admits he has already been blown away by £12m Newcastle star in training

Speaking on the The Rest is Football podcast, the pair had this to say on the exciting young full-back:

Gary Lineker  – “He looks a very, very talented young player. Incredibly quick, powerful, great engine up and down the line there, Alan. He is one of those players that is 21 and he is available to play for England, Scotland and Portugal.

“I think Gareth Southgate needs to get on the phone to him, I know there is no games he can play in for a little while, but you would, wouldn’t you? He plays on both sides as well and I know right-back we have lots of really great right-backs and Luke Shaw is a really good left-back but definitely a really good player for the future.”

Alan Shearer – “He has played for England at almost every level up until now. I would really hope that someone has already, and if they haven’t then they should rather quickly, get on the phone to him and tell him he has a big future in the England squad – whether that is at right-back or left-back.

“Because I am sure Newcastle bought him, they spent £30 million, and he did have a serious injury but there has always been that thing around him where he has huge potential and he’s a very good player, but I didn’t realise how good a player he was until I saw him at Newcastle, in a Newcastle shirt.

“When you consider some of the big games he has played in already this season, whether that is at right-back or like it was vs Man United at left-back, he has been absolutely sensational.”
