AC Milan beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to complete first January transfer

AC Milan’s initial January transfer market reinforcement will be a striker from Serbia. Matija Popovic of Partizan Belgrade is his name.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Milan management recently reached an agreement with Popovic on personal terms that will allow him to join the club on a free transfer in the winter, as his present contract expires on December 31st.

As a result, Popovic will soon be a Milan player. The details are still being worked out, but a deal has been reached, and the forward will travel in Italy after turning 18 – that is, on January 8 – to complete the standard medical examination process and sign the contract.

The arrangement negotiated with the player will last until June 2028, implying a four-and-a-half-year commitment. The Rossoneri believe he has great potential and will bring him to practice with the first squad right away.

Popovic combines dribbling, quickness, and a slim frame (195cm tall) with creativity and the ability to play nearly wherever along the front line. In May, his Serbia defeated Italy 2-1 and tied 1-1 with Lamine Yamal’s Spain at the U17 Euros. Popovic was responsible for all three assists.

It is no accident that Real Madrid, Juventus, and Barcelona (along with other Italian and foreign clubs) were interested in Partizan talent. The Blaugrana had also attempted a blitz, sending representatives to Belgrade to seal the agreement, but it had failed. Thanks to the excellent work of the trio Furlani, Moncada, and D’Ottavio, Popovic will soon be a Rossoneri player.
