Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon will hope to shake off a hip issue to return to his old stomping ground on Thursday night and the former Everton academy graduate knows what lies in wait
Anthony Gordon insists his return to a hostile Goodison Park will be ‘no different’ than any other game, as the in-form Newcastle United forward aims to lead his team to another victory.
Gordon, of course, has already visited his previous club Newcastle, where he came on as a late replacement in a 4-1 triumph over Everton in April. Despite Gordon’s brief appearance, Eddie Howe felt it was a’really good thing for him to mentally to deal with’ and ‘get it out of the way’ following the 22-year-old’s acrimonious departure.
Gordon has gone on to excel for Newcastle, and the former Everton academy graduate has been directly involved in seven goals in his previous eight Premier League appearances, including the game-winner against Manchester United last time out. Gordon’s form has led to him being one of the first names on the Newcastle squad sheet, and the Scouser will be anxious to shake off a hip injury and play on Thursday night.
Goodison Park was already going to be rocking under the lights – Everton’s recent points deduction has further bonded the club’s supporters – but the mere sight of Gordon is certain to send the home fans into a frenzy. Rather of being intimidated, Gordon would flourish in such an environment.
“This game coming up is no different for me than any of the others,” Gordon told NUFC TV. “It’s another game I’m looking to perform in and win.
“We’re in a really good place, but we know the environment we’re going to go into on Thursday so it’s no secret. We need to be ready for that. It’s going to be a challenging game and one that we’re looking to win.”
