Burnley eyeing move to sign “brilliant” Championship star for Kompany to boost survival chances

The Clarets are in desperate need of reinforcements…

Burnley’s return to the Premier League under Vincent Kompany could finally be looking up. The Clarets won only their second game of the season against fellow newly-promoted team Sheffield United, thrashing the Blades 5-0 in spectacular fashion. Now, Kompany and co will be hoping that this is the start of a resurgence run that will lift them out of relegation jeopardy. As things currently stand, they are 19th and two points out of safety.

The January transfer window could enhance their prospects of survival. According to reports, Turf Moor is considering a move for a specific defensive reinforcement.

Burnley transfer news

Burnley chose to focus on acquiring players with potential rather than those experienced in England’s top-flight league during the recent summer transfer window. Bringing in promising talents like James Trafford, Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa, Zeki Amdouni, and Michael Obafemi, the team aimed to build for the future rather than immediate impact. As the January transfer window approaches, Burnley seems poised to continue their search for key players, potentially targeting a specific individual.

According to TeamTalk, Burnley has their sights set on recruiting 21-year-old Trai Hume, Sunderland’s right-back. Reports suggest that Sunderland might sell Hume to generate profit and pave the way for Timothee Pembele to assume the position. However, Burnley might face competition from Championship clubs like Leicester City and Leeds United if they pursue Hume’s signature in what could become a competitive race in January.

Considering Burnley’s need for defensive reinforcements, Hume, a young and promising right-back, appears to fit the bill and has room to grow. The opening of the winter transfer window will reveal whether Burnley decides to make a move for him.

“Brilliant” Hume could boost Burnley’s survival chances

Kompany’s team undeniably requires defensive improvements to secure their position in the league. Burnley’s defensive record stands superior only to Sheffield United’s, positioned beneath them at the bottom of the Premier League, having conceded five goals against Burnley in their previous encounter. Yet, the arrival of Hume in January could potentially address some of Burnley’s defensive issues. Hume’s statistics demonstrate his readiness to perform at the highest level in English football.

When examining Hume’s numbers, it’s understandable why he has garnered praise from Sunderland, including commendation from teammate Daniel Ballard, as stated in Belfast Live:

“He’s been brilliant for us. He came from nowhere last season; he wasn’t playing too much, got his chance and he really took it. I’ve played next to him for a year-and-a-half now. He’s a fantastic player, a real technician, someone who Northern Ireland are really lucky to have. I think he has a wonderful future. We know each other very, very well.

“I know what he likes to do, he likes to move into midfield a lot. You can trust someone a lot more when you have built up that relationship, I feel comfortable and we’ve got a good chemistry. Trai is playing in the Championship, he loves a tackle and I think Northern Ireland will enjoy that as much as Sunderland fans do.”
