As if our injury woes weren’t bad enough, Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Sean Longstaff are both on the verge of suspension.
Trippier was booked for a ‘foul’ on Raheem Sterling in the build-up to Chelsea’s equalizer on Saturday, bringing his season total to four yellow cards.
According to Premier League rules, any player who collects five cautions before the halfway point of the season faces a one-match suspension, which means Trippier and Longstaff might miss our trip to Everton next Thursday if they are booked against Manchester United on Saturday.
The five-yellow ban is lifted after the 19th game, therefore both must avoid a yellow card in our remaining six league games in 2023 against Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, Luton Town, and Nottingham Forest.
After that, any player who receives 10 yellow cards before the season’s 32nd game faces a two-game suspension. Anthony Gordon has six bookings, Bruno Guimaraes has five, and Jamaal Lascelles has three.
