Bruno Guimaraes sends crazy social media reaction to PSG’s penalty call v Newcastle

Bruno Guimaraes was left furious as Newcastle United were denied a memorable win in Paris.

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes expressed his displeasure with the decision to award Paris Saint-Germain a penalty during Tuesday’s Champions League match.

After Alexander Isak scored in the 24th minute, the Magpies were on the verge of a historic 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes until PSG was awarded a penalty kick in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

PSG’s appeals were initially dismissed by referee Szymon Marcinia, but he changed his mind after being instructed to review the decision on the pitchside monitor. Kylian Mbappe remained composed from 12 yards out.

The U-turn provoked a furious response with replays showing Ousmane Dembele’s cross hit Tino Livramento before striking his upper arm.

And Guimaraes refused to sugarcoat how he really felt about the incident.

Via his official Instagram account the Brazilian said: “Sometimes in life you have to accept some decisions that you know are wrong and not being able to do anything for that makes.”

During his post-match interview, the 26-year-old also said he wasn’t happy about what had happened.

“I thought we were good. In the first half we controlled the game and the second half they were better,” he said. “It’s hard to speak about what happened in the end. I am not happy with what happened. The ball touched Tino’s body first.

“We have to keep the faith, we still have one game at home. We hope our fans, as always, will create an amazing atmosphere. We know what we have to do. But I am proud.

“Everyone gave everything. We are proud, we did amazing. It’s not easy to come here and play. We showed an amazing attitude to win the game. We should win. Difficult but I’m proud of the guys.

“We can control our game but not the referee. As I said before, I am not happy with what happened but sometimes in life you have to accept these things and move on.”

Newcastle’s chances of reaching the Champions League knockout stages are now out of their control.

Instead, Eddie Howe’s team must outperform PSG in the last round of Group F matches next month. United will play AC Milan at St James’ Park, while PSG will visit Borussia Dortmund.

“We have been giving everything for the shirt, for the city, for the owners and gaffer, for everyone,” Guimaraes added. “I think we should be proud, We still have one game. I believe a lot we win can win against AC Milan and then we’ll see if we go through.”
