Woes pile up for the Chicago Bulls as Star suffers injury

The Bulls are hoping this won’t be a long-term absence for Caruso.

As if the Chicago Bulls didn’t already have enough difficulties, defensive whiz Alex Caruso sustained a foot injury on Friday. After his teammate, Coby White, accidently trod on his foot, the first-team All-Defense member did not play the final 19 minutes of the game.

Erred on the side of caution

Caruso slowly walked over to the Bulls bench after the incident and was promptly replaced by Torrey Craig. He never saw the court again, as Bulls coach Billy Donovan chose to be cautious and leave him out for the rest of the game.

“I just decided not to put him back in the game. I don’t know if he could’ve gone back in the game. It was definitely my decision. I know he was hurting enough. He said he didn’t feel great,” Donovan said.

“When he said he didn’t feel great, I didn’t ask him if he could go back in.”

It was for the best

This season, Caruso has been one of the team’s few bright lights. He’s averaging a career-high 10.0 points per game on 56% shooting, including 47% from beyond the arc. After White stepped on his sprained toe on the left foot, Caruso said after the game that it would probably best if he sat out the rest of the game.

“It was pretty painful. It was probably the right decision,” Caruso said.

“There was probably only more negative that could’ve happened than positive throwing me back out there with the athletes and the pace of the game and the physicality of it.”
