Ian Wright and Roy Keane have given their predictions for Newcastle United’s encounter versus Chelsea this weekend.
Chelsea will meet Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, which resumes following the international break.
Newcastle may have appreciated the break in action after losing back-to-back games against Bournemouth (league) and Borussia Dortmund (Champions League). It’s a chance for Eddie Howe’s team to restart and give injured players more time to recover.
Before the internationals, the Blues had a positive vibe circulating throughout the club. Mauricio Pochettino’s team had four points from the previous two league games against Manchester City and Tottenham.
Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction
Ian Wright and Roy Keane collaborated on The Overlap to forecast the score for Newcastle’s match against Chelsea.
They eventually agreed: “2-1 to Newcastle.”
On The Overlap, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville projected a Newcastle victory over Chelsea.
Head to head
Chelsea only earned one point from their two league meetings against Newcastle last season, with the latter clearly on the rise.
Prior to the 2022/23 season, the Blues had won seven of their eight matches with Newcastle.
Pochettino has coached 13 times against Newcastle in his managerial career. He has seven wins, one tie, and five losses.
Both teams have already had their fair share of injuries this season. Thankfully, the Blues appear to be out of the worst of it as they welcome back some major stars. Newcastle appeared to be short on players before the international break.
