Sunderland is competing with Leeds United for Nathaniel Adjei.
According to The Sun, four other clubs are interested in Adjei as well.
So, what is the latest on Nathaniel Adjei, a Sunderland and Leeds United target? Let us investigate.
What’s the story?
Leeds United have been connected with Nathaniel Adjei, but it appears like Daniel Farke’s side may struggle to sign him in the January transfer window.
Leeds were listed as one of the clubs interested in signing Adjei earlier this month by Fotboll Direkt.
Sunderland are currently interested in signing the 21-year-old center defender.
Sunderland want to sign Adjei on loan from Hammarby IF in the January transfer window to boost their prospects of gaining promotion from the Championship, according to The Sun.
Middlesbrough and Preston North End are also keen on the defender, and so are Scottish Premiership clubs Rangers and Celtic.
Leeds are third in the Championship table with 31 points from 16 games, eight points behind first and second place Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
Sunderland is sixth in the table with 26 points from 16 games.
Leeds United do not need Sunderland target Nathaniel Adjei
Leeds United, in my opinion, do not need to sign Nathaniel Adjei and should not strive to bring him to Elland Road before Sunderland.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke, in my opinion, has enough choices at the back. At the moment, the Whites’ main center-backs are Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.
Rodon joined Leeds United on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 and has been one of the club’s finest performers this season.
Liam Cooper is still around and available to assist whenever required. Not to mention Charlie Cresswell.
Cooper is 32 now, and Cresswell is only 21, so an established centre-back in his mid-20s would be an excellent addition to the squad, especially in the long run, but I do not believe Leeds need to sign Adjei.
Adjei is only 21 years old and plays in the Swedish league. There is a risk he will not make an immediate impression at Elland Road.
