AC Milan now in early stages of contract talks with two key stars

Milan duo Olivier Giroud and Mike Maignan have established themselves as crucial figures for the club, and contract negotiations with both are currently underway.

Following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s retirement, the 37-year-old Giroud has taken on the position of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the group, being an experienced winner and vital reference point for his teammates in the dressing room. In 15 games this season, he has eight goals and three assists.

Maignan has also established himself as a star for Milan, allowing the team to quickly forget about Gianluigi Donnarumma. He was instrumental in the Rossoneri’s Scudetto triumph in 2021-22, and his lengthy absence due to injury last season demonstrated his value to the club.

According to Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo, Milan opted to offer both players new contracts in the summer and have now initiated exploratory conversations with the pair, trying to understand their aspirations and expectations at the club.

Despite offers from the MLS and Saudi Arabia, Giroud’s objective is to sign a new contract with the Rossoneri, but a salary agreement must be achieved.

Maignan’s situation is more difficult, as he cannot simply have his €2.8m net per season pay quadrupled under a new contract. The player is eager to stay, thus the club is optimistic.
