‘Still have contact’: 21-year-old Chelsea player is in regular contact with Vincent Kompany

Ian Maatsen, a Chelsea defender, has stated that he is in regular contact with another Premier League boss.

After spending a season on loan with his club in the Championship, he told Voetbal Primeur that he is still in contact with Vincent Kompany.

Maatsen was on the verge of spending the next few years of his career at Turf Moor under the Premier League great.

Chelsea accepted a proposal for his services from Burnley on the final day of the summer transfer window, aiming to cash in on an academy graduate who had yet to make a competitive appearance.

For whatever reason, the Dutchman turned down the move, preferring to concentrate on his efforts to break into the first squad setup at Stamford Bridge.

He has been a popular player for Mauricio Pochettino since his arrival, thanks to a strong pre-season in the United States.

The 21-year-old was a crucial player for his club then, however that has not carried into the domestic campaign.

With his future uncertain, Maatsen has stated that he is still in regular touch with his old management.

“In the meantime, I have to keep all options open,” he remarked. I may have to make difficult decisions later, but the club will notify me.

“I’m not mad at you [Kompany after Maatsen’s rejection of Burnley].” We’ll continue to monitor you.’ We still communicate on occasion.”

At this point, it appears that the defender’s time at the club is coming to an end, since he has fallen down the pecking order this season.

Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, and even natural center-back Levi Col will all start ahead of him at Stamford Bridge right now.
