“Special” Leeds star could now leave Elland Road in January

Leeds could be set to suffer a familiar fate in the January transfer window

Leeds United could be involved in a familiar tale at Elland Road as one of their players is being lined up for a loan exit in January, according to recent reports.

Daniel Farke’s new era at Leeds United

Despite being relegated last season amid uncertainty at Elland Road, Leeds United have responded well to life in the Sky Bet Championship as Daniel Farke continues to imprint his mark on the Yorkshire-based club. The Whites are third in the English second-tier after winning nine and drawing four of their first 16 games. They have put themselves in contention for promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Nonetheless, Ipswich Town lead Leeds United by eight points in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League, and Farke’s side will need to put together an imperious run of form to catch the Tractor Boys.

The sheer number of players that departed the club in the summer, either on loan or permanently, contributed to the uncertainty that surrounds Leeds United moving into 2023/24.
Some of the loan exits, in particular, sparked disagreement among Elland Road supporters, who were not happy to see some of their best assets leave the club so soon after the club had spent so much money to secure their services in the first place.

Farke’s superb work in the transfer market has helped to suitably replace some of those who opted to seek sanctuary elsewhere, therefore the atmosphere has shifted. According to a new report concerning one of their players, they may be set to embark on a familiar story.

Lazio eye Wilfried Gnonto loan deal

Everton transfer news: Toffees continue to target Leeds' Gnonto - BBC Sport

According to Calcio Style, Lazio are interested in Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto and may pursue a loan transfer with the possibility to activate a buyout clause for the Italy international in the summer for a fee of roughly €15 million. According to the source, Gnonto is open to moving abroad and is searching for different locations as he strives to achieve at the highest level possible.

Gnonto, formerly described as “special” by former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, has had a tough season for his current club, registering one goal and one assist in 11 games across all competitions (Gnonto statistics – Transfermarkt).

Despite this, the Verbania-born forward has averaged 1.1 shots and 1.4 completed dribbles per match in the English second division, showcasing his attacking prowess (Gnonto statistics – WhoScored).

Leeds will want to avoid being in an awkward situation with Gnonto’s future, though it will be interesting to see whether he is still at Elland Road after January.
