Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Juventus’ Nicol Fagioli were already banned for ten and seven months, respectively, by the Italian federation in the escalating case.
According to Italian media reports, AC Milan fullback Alessandro Florenzi has become the latest Italian player placed under investigation by Turin prosecutors looking into footballers using illegal websites to bet on games.
The Italian soccer association has previously suspended Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Juventus’ Nicol Fagioli for ten and seven months, respectively, in the escalating case.
Aston Villa’s Nicol Zaniolo is also being probed, however he has stated that he does not gamble.
Florenzi, a former Roma teammate of Zaniolo’s, had no immediate comment. Prosecutors may summon him for questioning in the coming days, according to the LaPresse news agency. The soccer federation could also launch an investigation.
Florenzi, 32, joined Milan last year on a contract that runs until 2024-25. He was a member of Italy’s 2021 European Championship-winning team. A request for comment was not immediately returned by the club.
