According to reports, Nottingham Forest are trying to “resolve the final details” in their pursuit of Nino, with a “agreement in place” with the player.
According to reports in Brazil, the Reds have been working on a January transfer window move for the Brazilian. They are thought to be willing to pay the 7 million euros (£6 million) required to trigger his release clause.
The 26-year-old is thought to have piqued the interest of numerous European clubs after playing a vital role in Fluminese’s Copa Libertadores victory. He previously represented his country at the under-23 level and was a member of the group that won gold in the Olympics in Tokyo.
And now, according to iG Esporte (via SportWitness), Forest are the only English club interested in him. According to the report, negotiations to sign the player are advanced, but financial and contractual elements are “still being debated.”
Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has previously stated that playing in Europe is a “dream” for the players. He hasn’t, however, ruled out a change of heart.
“In 2022, he (Nino) came to me and said he wanted to leave,” he explained to the Charla Podcast (via ESPN Brazil). “We got through the year, things started happening, and there were inquiries in September.”
“Fernando Diniz (manager of Fluminense) told him that he didn’t want him to leave until the end of the Brazilian league, so he stayed.” We qualified for the Libertadores, and I told Nino, “I need you to stay.” Nino arrived and announced his intention to stay for another year, and we must remember that he is a defender, he is 27 years old, and he has already paid for himself.
“So we agreed that any offer received in December would be accepted.” He hopes to take his family to Europe and play in a big league, perhaps in England. I agreed with him and will follow through on it. “Is it a done deal? No. The tendency is for it to be that, but I don’t know. If the guys change their minds and he wants to stay…”
