Newcastle United star Callum Wilson sends injury update amid major England update

Callum Wilson won’t feature for Gareth Southgate’s England side during the international break.

Callum Wilson, a striker for Newcastle United, was forced to withdraw from the England team prior to the international break due to a hamstring injury he sustained during last week’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

The charmer missed the Magpies’ loss to his old team Bournemouth on Saturday and has since dropped out of international action. He has now updated followers on social media about his ailment.

Wilson will not play in the forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, even though he was named in the England squad for those matches. The Three Lions have already qualified for the competition next summer despite their tough matches.

Still, Wilson may need to use those matches to persuade England manager Gareth Southgate that Wilson is worthy of a spot in the team for Euro 2024.

Ollie Watkins, the standout striker for Aston Villa, and Wilson have been fighting for a spot recently. Watkins is healthy and ready to play for England this week.

Wilson took to X to explain his injuries and to convey his unwavering resolve to make a comeback, both at the club and international levels. “Unfortunately, I had to withdraw from the squad that I’d worked so hard to be a part of due to a recent setback,” he wrote. I’ll definitely be back soon since strong walls tremble but never fall down. I wish the boys well in their forthcoming matches.”

Not only did England star Wilson cancel at the last minute, but James Maddison, a midfielder for Spurs, and Lewis Dunk, a defender for Brighton, were both unable to play. Call-ups have been made for Cole Palmer of Chelsea, Rico Lewis of Manchester City, and Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa.

Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, stated of Wilson and the team’s injury woes: “He’s going to be out for a number of weeks.”

“The international break has come at a very good time, but hopefully we can get one or two players back, I don’t necessarily think that means we’re going to have a flood of players back.”
