Eddie Howe Gives Positive Injury Update On Two Players – But Key Defender’s Injury Still Surrounded In Mystery

Eddie Howe, Newcastle United’s head coach, recently provided an update on the injuries affecting three players.

Regarding Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes, there’s positive news, indicating potential progress in their recovery. However, uncertainty persists around Sven Botman’s injury, with the medical team struggling to accurately diagnose his condition.

During the previous match against Bournemouth, Newcastle faced challenges with ten injured players and two others serving suspensions (Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes), resulting in a 2-0 defeat.

Looking ahead, there’s optimism about the return of Isak, Barnes, and Guimaraes for the upcoming home game against Chelsea. Guimaraes, who faced a one-match ban due to accumulating yellow cards, should also be available.

The absence of Guimaraes significantly affected midfield creativity in the last game, highlighting the team’s reliance on his contributions. There’s concern about potential injuries as Guimaraes plays for Brazil.

Additionally, Almiron’s hamstring injury, graded as a slight tear, presents another challenge for Howe and the team.

Eddie Howe’s recent comments shed light on the situation surrounding these three injuries.

Newcastle suffer ANOTHER injury blow as Eddie Howe reveals Sven Botman is still struggling with a knee problem and could be a 'long term' absentee | Daily Mail Online

“Alex is doing well,” Howe claimed. “He’s building up his load to make sure he’s robust enough to return. His fitness levels and his groin at the moment, touch wood, feels good.

“He’s on plan to return after the international break.”

“I think he’s (Harvey Barnes) just started running,” “He had to let his bone heal in his toe. Fingers crossed he’s on the right path. He’s probably one who won’t be too far away after the international break.”

“No massive news regarding Sven, he’s been progressing well,”  “He’s been away in Holland getting specialist treatment there.”

“I think he’s back here so I’ll have a chat with him and see how he’s doing. Not to this level but it’s a difficult one because I don’t want to build it up any more than it is.”

“I want to focus on the players who are fit and available because they are good enough.”

The 23-year-old Botman suffered a knee injury more than 11 weeks ago, on August 27th, which is 79 days ago.

He sustained an injury during our 2-1 home loss to 10-man Liverpool, and it doesn’t appear to be getting better. As a result, the Dutch U21 international has now missed a huge 11 games for us this season.

It could be worthwhile for Newcastle to spend the money to bring in some injury experts, as Rafa Benitez did during his tenure as head coach.
