According to journalist Adam Crafton, if Leeds United were promoted but had a poor start to the season like Burnley, they would fire Daniel Farke.
Crafton was speaking on the current episode of BBC 5Live’s Monday Night Club, which examined Burnley’s awful first 12 games after promotion.
Last season, the Clarets romped to the Championship title under Vincent Kompany, amassing 101 points and gaining promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking in early April.
Many predicted Burnley to be comfortable survivors in pre-season due to the football they played in Kompany’s first year at Turf Moor, but that has not happened.
Burnley have only collected four points from their first 12 games, with their solitary victory coming away at Luton Town in early October.
Crafton says Leeds would sack Farke
Despite their poor start, Burnley have been unwavering in their support for Kompany. Crafton feels Farke would be fired if Leeds were in the same scenario next year.
“I don’t think a manager would survive if Leeds were promoted next season and they started in the Premier League with four points from 12 games, as Burnley have,” he remarked. That’s just the way it is.”
Burnley already face an uphill battle to stay in the Premier League, with the established sides looking strong and Bournemouth showing signs of life.
If Leeds were in this scenario, it would be difficult to imagine them endorsing Farke since San Francisco 49ers Enterprises are unlikely to want to be in control of a team that is bouncing back and forth between the Championship and the Premier League.
Of course, all of this is hypothetical, as Leeds still have a lot of work to do if they want to be promoted, but it’s fun to think about.
