If Newcastle United signs Ruben Neves in January, the Premier League will be very angry.
As they look to replace Sandro Tonali, the Magpies have been linked to a deal for the midfielder. He is prohibited from betting until August 2024.
Ruben Neves has been mentioned as a possible addition, and Newcastle is considering the option of loaning the 26-year-old. That might not be feasible, though.
Given that Neves plays for Al Hilal, who like Newcastle United are controlled by PIF, a loan move would cause significant difficulty.
As the Premier League gets ready to vote on a temporary ban on clubs loaning players to clubs owned by the same people, it appears that they will avoid anything similar from happening before it happens. It’s a timely reminder that our Premier League opponents are determined to stop us.
Amidst all of this, Neves feels uneasy. After failing to settle in Saudi Arabia, he is reportedly interested in returning to the Premier League.
And now, Ben Jacobs has provided an update that reveals the particular feelings of the £47 million player on his signing with Newcastle.
Ruben Neves interested in Newcastle move
In an interview with Give Me Sport, Jacobs discussed Newcastle’s interest in Neves and acknowledged that the midfield player might be amenable to a transfer to St. James’ Park.
Given that you know Tonali will return, taking out a loan makes a lot of sense, he said.
“Al Hilal and the Saudi deal-makers are not in favor of the move, but Neves is one possibility and the player is amenable to the move.”
What Neves said about Eddie Howe’s side in 2022
Neves is reportedly interested in moving to Newcastle, according to Jacobs, which is intriguing considering what he stated about Eddie Howe’s squad during his last season at Wolves.
When the teams met in August 2022 at Molineux, they tied 1-1. Neves fired a rocket past Nick Pope to open the score, and Allan Saint-Maximin added an even greater equalizer in the closing moments.
The game had its ups and downs, but ultimately, Newcastle gained a crucial point that was crucial for them as they began what would turn out to be an amazing season.
But after the full time whistle, Neves criticized them.
“That’s how they play,” he remarked. Only second balls and long balls. We were aware that they are not a team that enjoys having possession excessively.
Given that Eddie Howe has never led us to be a long ball club, his remarks at the time seemed harsh. We are physical and apply strong pressure, yet we move the ball nicely instead of just lumping it.
No matter how badly Neves wants it, a move to St James’ Park seems improbable. He will have to experience that for himself if he joins in January.
