Stefano Pioli points out the key reason AC Milan defeated PSG

Paris Saint-Germain missed an opportunity to put themselves in position to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions Round of 16. AC Milan defeated the capital club 2-1 on Tuesday at San Siro.

Milan Skriniar’s header made it 1-0 for the French behemoths to take the lead. However, a few minutes after Rafael Leão’s goal, the Ligue 1 team lost their early lead. Olivier Giroud’s header would be the decisive goal for AC Milan.

In response to his team’s performance, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli emphasized the mental toughness of his group. For the Italian team to have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages, they had to win the match.

“I expected this reaction because I know my players and my group well,” Pioli told reporters postgame (h/t Canal Supporters). “We played a fantastic match mentally.

“Mentally, we responded very well, and now we have to try to stay consistent because we still have a lot of work to do in the Champions League. From a technical point of view, PSG was a little stronger; we let them play and did what we had to do.”

PSG will have a difficult task in the next two matchdays. The Capital Club does, however, have power over its future. The French behemoths will punch their ticket to the competition’s next round as long as they win two games.
