Eddie Howe to enforce further Newcastle changes after fresh injury blow to key star

Every week that goes by, Newcastle United’s squad gets smaller. Eddie Howe’s injury concerns haven’t abated since Callum Wilson sustained an injury during the team’s 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund. This implies that, with Newcastle United facing a serious injury crisis, the head coach will probably have to rearrange his squad once more.

After receiving his fifth yellow card of the year during the 1-0 victory over Arsenal, Bruno Guimaraes will already be absent from the trip to the south coast on Saturday. Howe did not completely rule Wilson out of the tie, but his absence means there will be at least one change for the match against the Cherries.

Speaking after the result at the Signal Iduna Stadium in midweek, Howe said: ” Callum was feeling a tightness in his hamstring; that forced our hand as well, so we are really stretched. It’s too early to say [for Saturday].”

Along with Joe Willock, Anthony Gordon should be expected to join the team. Should the Tyneside injury situation worsen, the former of the two is predicted to play a more central role at the Magpies, just as he did with the England U21s in the summer.

Miguel Almiron came on for summer signing Lewis Hall at the half in Dortmund, and Howe might start the Paraguayan in a more advanced position against the Cherries.

Tino Livramento, who was arguably Newcastle’s best player in Dortmund, would probably move into a more natural deeper role as a result. Howe has to choose who to play on either side of the back four after the young defender demonstrated versatility by playing on either side of defense.
