Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has confirmed that Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen will not be part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next week. It was reported that Nigeria’s first qualifying match is set for November 16 against Lesotho at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with a match against Zimbabwe on November 17 in Butare, Rwanda.
While it seemed unlikely that Osimhen, who suffered an injury in Nigeria’s friendly match against Saudi Arabia last month, would be available for the World Cup qualifying matches, Chukwueze was almost certain to recover in time, as indicated by the AC Milan coach during his pre-match briefing on Friday. Chukwueze might even be considered for the UEFA Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, ahead of their Saturday match against Udinese.
In terms of other player updates, Loftus-Cheek is in good health and will be part of the team, but Pulisic won’t be participating as a precaution. Both Pulisic and Chukwueze will be with PSG. Kjaer also has a good chance of being available for Tuesday’s match, as per Pioli’s assessment.
Peseiro, on the other hand, has confirmed that he will not be calling up either of these players for the World Cup qualifiers, as revealed in a conversation with TV Play.
According to Milan Reports, Peseiro said TV Play, “We wish to avoid any risks, so Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen will not be called up during the next break.”
“I sincerely apologized for their injuries; players receive compensation from their clubs, and we maintain regular contact with them.”
In the absence of Osimhen and Chukwueze, Peseiro has a wealth of attacking options for the Super Eagles.
Victor Boniface, a forward for Bayer Leverkusen, has had an amazing start to his career in Germany, making him currently Nigeria’s second most significant player, behind Osimhen.
