Sunderland set to miss out on top transfer target after latest update

According to sources, Sunderland is unlikely to secure the loan signing of Manchester United winger Amad Diallo in January. Diallo, who impressed during his temporary stint at the Stadium of Light last season under Tony Mowbray’s management, is keen to return to first-team action after recovering from a preseason knee injury. However, the decision may not be entirely in his hands.

Manchester United is currently facing a creative crisis under manager Erik ten Hag, but he is inclined to rely on his experienced players. Players like Antony, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Facundo Pellistri, and Jadon Sancho can all play in Amad’s preferred position on the right wing. Still, Amad is currently out of the squad.

To address their issues, Manchester United might consider loaning Amad for the second half of the season. Nevertheless, the chances of him returning to Sunderland are low as Manchester United believes he should try his luck in a more competitive league.

Sunderland has expressed its desire to have Amad back, and Amad himself reportedly favors rejoining Tony Mowbray’s team if he doesn’t secure a starting spot at Manchester United. However, a move to the Championship club is becoming increasingly unlikely. Meanwhile, Tony Mowbray hopes to retain his current key players, including Jack Clarke, amid Premier League interest.
