Following last night’s 3-0 win over Manchester United, club legend Alan Shearer and co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi took to Twitter as we advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Alan Shearer – ‘Total domination from the Toon. Magnificent from start to finish from every single player. One team playing for the badge the other team a complete mess. TOON TOON.’
Mehrdad Ghodoussi – ‘Incredible performance by the lads, so proud of the resilience and fight. We are united, we are one. Also a special thanks to the away fans, you sang your hearts out – your support means everything to the team.’
Shearer is correct. Everyone contributed, with rarely seen squad members Matt Ritchie, Emil Krafth, and Paul Dummett all putting in outstanding performances. This line best summarized it: ‘One team playing for the badge, the other team a complete mess.’
Ghodoussi’s message of ‘we are united’ felt appropriate. Last night, only one United looked up for a fight and a proper team, and he was correct to praise the 7,000+ Geordies who drowned out Old Trafford from start to finish.
So many positives, so many success stories, and such a satisfying win over an abysmal Manchester United team that couldn’t handle our energy, intensity, organization, and spirit.
Incredible performance by the lads, so proud of the resilience and fight. We are united, we are one. 🖤🤍🖤🤍@NUFC #nufc #carabaocup also a special thanks to the away fans, you sang your hearts out – your support means everything to the team. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/Igdwx6KB6f
