Officially done deal: Sunderland complete the signing of former premier league talent

Sunderland has officially added goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze as their latest addition, securing his services until the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. The club’s academy has a strong track record of nurturing talented players who have gone on to achieve success in professional football, either with Sunderland or at other clubs.

Prominent figures such as Dan Neil and Anthony Patterson have become integral members of Sunderland’s first team in the Championship, and upcoming prospects like Chris Rigg appear poised to follow suit. Sunderland has now confirmed a new talent acquisition for their youth ranks.

As reported on the club’s official website, goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze, whose contract with Leicester City ended in the summer, has found a new home at the Stadium of Light. Chibueze, a 19-year-old, has signed a contract that runs until 2024, with the possibility of extending it for an additional year.

This move presents an excellent opportunity for Chibueze to further his development. Sunderland is renowned for its commitment to player development, whether at the first-team or academy level. The club has a history of producing successful goalkeepers, with current number one Anthony Patterson and England and Everton star Jordan Pickford serving as prime examples. Chibueze aspires to attain a similar level of success as he advances in his career.

Notably, the new Sunderland recruit is a four-time England U16 international and has accumulated 19 appearances in the U18 Premier League. With his move to the Black Cats, he aims to progress to the Premier League 2, marking the next significant step in his football journey.
