Former Sunderland Star thinks Black Cats player is a flop and he needs to work hard

Danny Collins, a former player for Sunderland, thinks Jewison Bennette of the Black Cats needs to put in a lot of effort for the Under-21 team in order to be considered again by Tony Mowbray.

In the summer of 2022, Alex Neil signed the 19-year-old winger, and Bennette appeared in 18 games across all competitions.

Bennette has made four appearances for the Black Cats Under-21 squad this season, but only one for Sunderland’s first team.

Collins feels that in order to win over Mowbray and his coaching staff, Bennette needs to put in a lot of effort and demonstrate his abilities with the Sunderland Under-21 team.

He also made the point that Bennette needs to step up when he gets the chance because there is fierce competition on both wings.

Sunderland and Costa Rica forward Jewison Bennette reveals injury update

“He has to keep doing it for the Under-21s, score goals there and put in impressive performances to show Tony Mowbray and the coaching staff that he is working hard”, Collins said on Sunderland’s media.

“When he gets his opportunity in the first team, he has to try and take it.

“But it is difficult for him because his best position is out on the left.

“Well, is he going to get in ahead of Jack [Clarke], probably not.

“Patrick [Roberts] is on the other side, so it is difficult for him to get in, so when he gets minutes off the bench, he has to have an impact and show the effort and work rate like he did against Southampton.”

With four appearances for the Sunderland Under-21 team, Bennette has one goal and two assists. With his current form, he will be looking to regain his spot in the starting lineup.
