Burnley confirm five-year contract for 23-year-old star

After signing a new five-year contract at Turf Moor, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany believes Lyle Foster will become a “important” Premier League striker.

Foster joined Burnley in January from Belgian club Westerlo and scored just once as the Clarets won the Sky Bet Championship.

However, the 23-year-old Johannesburg native, who is currently under contract until the summer of 2028, has adjusted fast to the Premier League, scoring three goals in seven appearances.

“He came from a very small club, and we believe he is going to be an important striker in the Premier League,” Kompany said ahead of Saturday’s league match against Bournemouth.

“When you compare what the Premier League benchmarks are, I think it was a slight correction from our side, and also making sure we can keep him a little bit longer at the club, so we are really happy with that.”

“It took him six months to settle in, but he’s happy and doing well now.”

“It’s also not just what he’s shown on the field, but also off the field.” His personality, he’s dependable, and he works hard.

“He’s a team player who is also capable of competing at this level.” So it’s a win-win situation for the club.”

Foster began his career in his home South Africa with Orlando Pirates before moving on to Monaco, Vitoria de Guimaraes in Portugal, and Westerlo.

“I’m very happy to stay here,” Foster told the Burnley official website.

“It’s a great club with great people, and I’ve really enjoyed working here, so I’m happy to stay.”

“I’m trying to maintain my focus and keep working hard.” It’s a long season with many tough games, but I believe we’ll get stronger with time.

“We’re going to have a good season.” I have a lot of faith and confidence in the team, the coaches, and everyone in the building.

“There is no need to be concerned. Simply enjoying what we’re doing is a recipe for success.”

Burnley are one point and one spot ahead of 19th-placed Bournemouth as they travel to the south coast.

Hjalmar Ekdal, Johann Gudmundsson, Jordan Beyer, Manuel Benson, and Michael Obafemi all expected to be out.

Connor Roberts will also be missing as he serves a one-match suspension for his red card against Brentford last week.
