Vincent Kompany updates on Arijanet Muric’s position at Burnley amid transfer talk

Arijanet Muric has been commended by Vincent Kompany for his maturity after being pushed aside by James Trafford this season.

Last season, the 24-year-old was mainly Burnley’s number one goalkeeper as Kompany’s team won the Championship.

The Kosovan made 41 appearances across all competitions as the Clarets cruised back to the Premier League.
With the exception of a few of Carabao Cup games, the shot stopper has had to play second fiddle to summer signing Trafford since the start of the season.

It has recently spurred talk that Muric could leave Turf Moor during the January transfer window, with Sevilla and Union Berlin reportedly interested.

Muric, according to Sky Germany, wants to play more frequently and a loan move could be on the cards.

When asked about Muric’s status, Kompany stated, “For goalkeepers, every club in the Premier League has one or two great goalkeepers.” There was no need for us to be anything other than ourselves.

“Aro did really well for us in the Championship last season, and he’s one of those players who has to compete for his spot, but he’s not the only one.”

“I’ve known Aro for a long time now, since he was a young player, and I think he’s shown a lot of maturity, an understanding of the job and whenever he’s been called upon he’s given exactly what he’s needed to do.”

Given the number of goals Burnley has conceded this season, 23 in just nine games, Trafford’s performances in goal have been scrutinized.

But Kompany has come to the youngster’s defense, believing that he has a bright future.

“He’s never looked out of place,” he remarked.

“If you look back at the goals we’ve conceded, I think three of them were in goal of the month, so it’s just been that type of start for us.

“Moving forward, I’m used to working with players like him. You look at character, technical ability and understanding of the game, he will be a top goalkeeper that will please many English fans in the future.”
