21-year-old Sunderland star makes long-awaited comeback, he could be on the bench tonight

Sunderland are set to get a huge injury boost when left-back Dennis Cirkin returns to the King Power Stadium.

Tony Mowbray’s injury issues are starting to ease, and they may get even better tonight as the Black Cats go to league leaders Leicester.

With a win at the King Power Stadium today, Sunderland might significantly boost their own promotion chances.

Sunderland are currently sixth after a weekend defeat, but a win could propel them to third place.

Dennis Cirkin, who should come off the bench, will return to Mowbray’s squad.

Cirkin’s return is close, according to Mowbray.
Dennis Cirkin played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hibernian’s U21 side yesterday.

This was his first outing since suffering a hamstring injury in early September.
According to Chronicle Live, Mowbray said before the game that if Cirkin performed well, he could find himself on the bench for Leicester.

“Hopefully Dennis comes through it and then he can be on the bench tomorrow night because he is champing at the bit.”

Sunderland’s form might be reignited with a massive return.
Sunderland have taken a step backwards in recent games after a strong start to the season.

Mowbray is desperate for a win after two losses in a row, and having Cirkin back on the bench could be the lift he needs.

While he will not start, his presence will undoubtedly challenge Niall Huggins to perform at his best, as well as provide an option in the second half if needed.

Cirkin is an important player for Sunderland, and his comeback will signal a return to form, even if it doesn’t happen today against Leicester.
