The Saints’ manager has been discussing the potential comeback of Ross Stewart, who has been sidelined due to injury. Southampton has shown a strong resurgence with two wins and a draw in their last three Championship matches, overcoming an early setback that initially threatened their progress. Currently positioned 10th in the league, they have a chance to climb as high as third if results align in their favor by the end of the upcoming match against Hull City.
This is a promising prospect for the club, particularly as they anticipate the return of Ross Stewart from his injury. Stewart, signed from Sunderland during the summer transfer window, has been sidelined since January due to an Achilles injury suffered in an FA Cup match against Fulham.
As a result, Southampton is yet to witness Stewart in action. Nevertheless, there is optimism that his return is imminent. The latest update on Ross Stewart’s injury status was sought by the media, and Russell Martin, the team’s manager, provided the following update:
“Ross is very close. I previously mentioned you wouldn’t see him before the international break, and that proved correct. He’s been involved in partial training but hasn’t had any contact time. However, he’s looked quite promising during those moments. With the upcoming three-game week and limited group training, he’s unlikely to feature this week. We need to exercise patience with Ross. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, he’ll return to full training, and then we’ll assess his readiness to start or utilize him as a substitute.”
The decision on Stewart’s usage will be made in consultation with the sports science and medical department, balancing the need for immediate impact with the long-term welfare of the player. Stewart is eager to contribute but understands the importance of a cautious approach.
Ross Stewart’s return from injury is expected to provide a significant boost to Southampton. While there has been some rotation between Carlos Alcaraz and Che Adams in the striker role in recent weeks, Stewart aims to establish himself in that position when he returns.
