Breaking news: Newcastle United star banned and fined

Newcastle United footballer Miguel Almiron has been banned from driving after failing to provide police with information.

The 29-year-old was convicted of failing to provide information relevant to the identification of a vehicle’s driver/rider when requested.

The NUFC star will be banned from driving for six months after being convicted of an offence in his absence at Gateshead Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon.

On April 24, this year, the 29-year-old, identified as ‘Miggy,’ was accused of failing to provide information relevant to the identification of a vehicle’s driver/rider when needed. The charge relates to the identification of the driver of a Land Rover who was accused of an offense.

On December 14, 2022, the Paraguayan was also accused of using a handheld mobile phone/device while driving a motor vehicle on Benton Lane in Longbenton. On Thursday, the court dismissed the charge.

Almiron, of High Callerton, Newcastle, did not appear in court, and the accusation of failing to provide information was proven in his absence. He was banned from driving for six months and fined £660.

Almiron has been a vital member of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle squad since he took over as manager in November 2021. He started the scoring against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) earlier this month in a 4-1 Champions League win at St James’ Park.

The midfielder has been on international duty with Paraguay, where he played in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Bolivia.

Newcastle United did not respond to requests for comment.
