Big Premier League decision set to affect Newcastle United

Aston Villa, Wolves, Newcastle United, and Brighton are among the clubs who will be affected by a big new Premier League ruling.

The Premier League’s changes to television rights will affect Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as 270 games will be telecast live per season beginning in 2025. Villa’s European counterparts, particularly those outside the so-called “big six,” will be notably influenced, as all Sunday games will be shown beginning with the 2025/26 season.

The regular Saturday 3pm curfew will stay in place to try to preserve attendance at all levels of the football pyramid, but there will be an additional round of midweek Premier League games to allow for more coverage.

Meanwhile, it has been agreed that the usual slots of Monday and Friday 8pm, Saturday 12.30pm and 5.30pm, and Sunday 4.30pm will remain televised.

From 2025 onwards, at least two broadcasters will compete for the rights, most likely Sky Sports and TNT Sports, as the total number of matches on television climbs from 210 to 270. Because each broadcaster has many channels, this Premier League decision is unlikely to affect the number of English Football League games telecast.
