Nottingham Forest tried to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah on transfer deadline day in the summer. The player was a wanted man and now he could still be on the City Ground radar.
Bayern Munich was interested in the 24-year-old throughout the summer. When that deal fell through, Forest made a £25 million bid, which Chelsea accepted before the deadline.
However, Chalobah was not interested in moving to Forest. He elected to stay and compete for a spot at Stamford Bridge, but he will almost definitely be permitted to depart when the window reopens.
Forest is still interested in signing Chalobah
This information was provided by 90Min. They believe Steve Cooper is a major fan of Chalobah and will be keeping a close eye on the scenario concerning the Chelsea man in January.
At Chelsea, Forest target Chalobah has fallen far down the pecking order. The £50,000-a-week player progressed through the ranks at Stamford Bridge and has made 63 appearances for the Blues in his senior career.
The player will now be counting down the days until January. He will be desperate to get out and play some football and it will be intriguing to see where he heads when the window reopens.
Forest would have some juggling to do at centre-back
When called upon, Forest target Chalobah has shown to be a very important player for Chelsea. Rio Ferdinand described him as ‘unbelievable’ in 2019, and he was quite impressed with the player who generally plays at center-back.
It’s safe to presume that any centre-back signing would imply the departure of two players. Scott McKenna and Felipe are both out of contract next summer and would almost certainly be on the move.
Murillo has made a solid start to life at Forest, and while Willy Boly’s contract expires next summer, his early season form suggests that he’s untouchable at the moment.
Joe Worrall remains the club captain, despite a lack of game time. Andrew Omobamidele was also signed on transfer deadline day and appears to be a long-term prospect.
Given the battle for positions, Chalobah would be an intriguing signing. If Cooper wants him, the club’s recruitment team may go after him again in January.
