Just in: Leicester City could lose key star on a free transfer

According to rumors, Leicester City player Kelechi Iheanacho is out of contract at the end of the season, which has put Champions League finalists Internazionale on high alert.

After fighting for minutes under Pep Guardiola, the Nigeria international joined Leicester City for £25 million in 2017. According to Football Insider, Leicester were prepared to ask between £10-15 million for Iheanacho this summer.

Now, the former Premier League winners face losing the centre-forward on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season, which has alerted a number of European clubs, including Inter.

According to FC Inter News, the Nerazzurri are looking to reinforce their striking department this summer, and Iheanacho is on their radar because he will be available for free in eight months if he does not sign a new contract to stay at the King Power Stadium.

Nonetheless, FC Inter News has disclosed that additional assessments on the player will be required, so nothing is set in stone for the time being.

Several clubs in England’s top flight were eager to sign Iheanacho during the summer transfer window for as little as £10-15 million. According to Football Insider, Everton is one of these suitors, while The Daily Mail claims Crystal Palace is another.

Iheanacho has five goals this season under new head coach Enzo Maresca as Leicester City has cruised to the top of the Championship, looking to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

Author’s Opinion

It’s not surprising that Iheanacho has been linked with moves to some of Europe’s most powerful clubs. Even as a backup option, the Nigerian will score a handful of goals per season, as evidenced by his stint at Leicester City.

However, if he leaves for nothing, the Foxes would have lost £25 million on him, which is a significant financial loss for the club.
