Ex-Sunderland manager favorites for League Two job a year after Championship sacking

Former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is expected to return to management after a year away.
Following the dismissal of Neil Harris, former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is the early favorite to take over at Gillingham.

The Gills are third in League Two but had gone three games without a win before parting ways with Harris, who had been with the club since January 2022, last week.
Bruce, who managed Sunderland from 2009 to 2011, has been unemployed since being fired by West Brom in October of last year.

After leaving Wearside, the 62-year-old went on to manage Hull City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Sheffield Wednesday. He is the early betting favourite for the Gillingham job, ahead of Crawley manager Scott Lindsey and former Oxford manager Karl Robinson.

Gillingham chairman Brad Galinson has stated that the club is looking for a new manager from all over the world. “I’m not rushing,” stated the American owner. “This is an important long-term decision, but we are confident Keith will keep us on track whilst I make the decision on who is the right person to take us forward.”
